SEO Masterclass : 3 Day (Holiday ) Training. Day 3

By now, you have already figured out which keywords are relevant to your business and how to perform keyword research. If you missed, you can go through the training here.

This post will be wrapping up the 3 days training and we will be focusing on how you package your content with your keywords and set your website up for success.

Since day one I have been mentioning that your content should be designed to not only help you rank, it should be designed to add value and help your users better understand your business.

One thing to note is that your keywords should be used in an orderly manner. What I mean is, do not overdo it with the keywords.

Avoid content that is auto generated. It is true to say that there have emerged many tools that "auto-generate" content for you. As much as this is a tool that simplifies your work, it lacks human touch.

Here are other ways to optimize your site for SEO:

1. Have internal links ( Links within your website )

When writing content, is is important to link to other pages/articles in your website. A good example is what I have done at the beginning of this post, I have a link to day 2 of this masterclass (see below image)

Internal links

Internal links help Google understand your website better and this will in turn help Google rank your website better. Internal links also boost page/article views. Eg every time I link to an older article in a new article, I always find that the older article has gained more views.

In the example above, I have a link to my day 2 of the SEO Masterclass. How I have done this is with the use of an anchor text link. This is usually in another color and you will rarely miss it. When a user clicks on the link, they will be redirected to another part of your website.

The most important point is that internal links help keep visitors longer in your website. The more time they spend on your website, the higher the chances of them taking an action.

2. Have external links

These are links that direct users to other websites. These websites should be relevant to your business.  These links establish authority to your web page.

Remember that the main goal for search engines such as Google is to find the most relevant answer to search queries. So, if your website helps Google get to this goal by having links to other useful website content, then Google will have a soft spot for your site.

You can add these links in articles within your website.

3. Optimize your images

Yes, you should also optimize images that are in your website. Start by compressing your images to avoid a slow web.

Always include an alt text to describe your image. This is useful for the visually impaired. Include your keyword in your alt text.

Did you know that Google crawls alt texts to better understand what your image is about? Yes, it does!

4. Make your page easily readable

Organize your website and make it easy for visitors to navigate.

5. Mind your headings

Headings help your visitors/readers better navigate through your article. If a reader is skimming through, headings will help them better understand what your article is about. There are usually different levels of headings, i.e. H1-H6

Level 1 is the highest or main level of heading, Level 2 is a subheading of Level 1, Level 3 is a subheading of Level 2, and so on through Levels 4,5 and 6. You can read more about headings here.

6. Have meta descriptions for your articles

These are tags that provide information to search engines and users. They contain information about what the website/article is about

Describe your images

This is what a user will see when they are searching and are looking to make a decision on which web page to open. Make sure your meta description is valuable enough to get you a click.

7. And lastly ( and not the least) let your website be secure

Google recommends that all web pages have a secure protocol. You have probably seen a http or https proceeding a website. Http and Https are protocols.  The "s" stands for secure and any website that has a http protocol is not secure. Such pages will not rank well and your web browser will usually warn you about clicking such websites.

A secure website

The closed padlock shows the site is secure
