Ultimate Guide to Content Distribution Strategy (2022)

Content distribution, what is it?

Creating content doesn't end when you publish that blog post via your website or social media platforms. You need to go further ahead and make sure that your target audience sees and has a take away from your content.

The thing is, there are hundreds if not thousands of content published by competition, which means you need a content distribution strategy.

Content Distribution is the act of promoting content to online audiences in multiple media formats through various channels.

I have had instances where people ask me how I get people to view my content. How I got views for my website and articles. The simple answer is, I promote my content in different ways and formats.

Remember the number one rule of social media/digital marketing? Always know your audience?

Well, it is important to experiment with different content formats to know which one does well with your audience.

I did a test last week with how I distributed my content. I used my  personal image to promote my content. To my surprise, these posts did really well. Although I was tasked with figuring out how I will relate my images with the content I am promoting, this particular strategy worked well with my audience and my blog views shot up the roof.

There are many types of content you can create for your business. Before creating content, understand your audience first.

Do they respond more to videos? Create on YouTube or TikTok. Do they respond to stories, create a website and share these stories with them. Here are types of content you can have for your business:

  • Blog Posts and Articles
  • Ebooks
  • Templates
  • Checklists
  • Case studies
  • Success stories
  • Whitepapers
  • Research studies
  • Infographics
  • Landing pages
  • Podcasts
  • Newsletters
Here is what you need to create your strategy:

1. Know your audience

Like I have mentioned countless times, knowing your audience is the key to creating the right content. What are their expectations? What are they searching for online?

2. Audit your content

Take a look at all types of content you have created. Which one performed better? Go ahead and lean towards creating that type of content.

3. Choose channels to be used in distributing your content

We circle back again on what your audience loves and where they hang out most. Do they love videos? Then your choice channel would be Youtube.

4. Set your goals

Yes, you should have goals and KPIs ( key performance indicators ) to gauge your success in marketing/distributing your content.

Eg 100 blog views per day

5. Start marketing your content

You can create great content, but if no one is reading, then you are wasting your time ( unless you are practicing on your writing skills😊)

Once you understand your audience and choose which channels you will use, go ahead and start marketing ( sharing, distributing your content )

6. Remember to analyze your performance

Using your set KPIs and goals, measure your success.
