We all wouldn't mind an extra source of income right? Especially during these hard times. Since last year, our jobless situation has only gotten worse, with more people losing jobs than they are securing them.Fortunately with the age of the internet, we can find work online. One of the most common ways that is earning people a fortune is via affiliate marketing.
Affiliate marketers such as Pat Flynn earn a fortune via affiliate marketing. Other than these famous people, people just like you and me are earning via affiliate marketing and all it takes is for you to start.
And yes, you can do affiliate marketing without having a blog/website ( although it helps having one ). But, I already showed you how you can create a blog/website for free so if you haven't read about it here.
How affiliate marketing works?
"Affiliate marketing is an advertising model in which a company compensates third-party publishers to generate traffic or leads to the company's products and services." Investopedia
As an affiliate, you get a special link that makes it possible to track sales back to you. You share this link with your audience.
Now how do you get started with affiliate marketing?
This is important to know which products you will be promoting. It makes it easier to focus and optimally market your affiliate links.
Choose a specific topic eg fashion specifically fashion for expectant mums or breastfeeding mums.
If you already run a business, you can choose to promote affiliate products that are in your line of business.
Like I mentioned, affiliate marketing works even when you do not have a website. But you will need to decide on which platform you will be actively promoting.
A blog or YouTube works better in promoting affiliate links.
- Find affiliate programs to join
When deciding which affiliate program to join, consider your niche and the products you are interested in promoting.
There are many affiliate programs you can join and you can find them via google. Just search for your line of work followed by "affiliate" eg payroll software affiliate programs.
Check to see how much they pay for people you bring in and judge if it is worth promoting.
Please always remember to do your due diligence before joining any program. This is your responsibility.

This is how you will bring attention to your affiliate links. Make sure that your content gives value to your readers and drives them to a solution.
You can create content such as :tutorials, how to's, reviews etc.
Eg if you join a tech affiliate program, you can do reviews for gadgets you already use and recommend them to your audience.
- Drive traffic to your affiliate links
Now, all the above effort will not bear any fruits if you do not drive traffic to your content. You need to get people to read/watch your content.
You can drive traffic via:
- Paid traffic where you pay to have traffic to your sites such as using ads
- Free traffic where you drive traffic to your content without paying. You can do this via SEO, social media and email marketing.
- Get clicks on your affiliate links
Once you drive people to your site, you need them to click on your affiliate links. To do this make sure that you do not have all your affiliate links at the bottom of the page, instead, place your links in your content, but make sure you do not overdo it.
