5 Tips For New Online Freelancers

Freelancing is offering your services while not been committed to a specific employer. You can freelance any services according to your skills and expertise. Eg you can be a web developer freelancer or a digital marketer.

Before I start on the tips, I need you to know that working online will not give you money instantly. You will have to put in work and when you do, you will definitely reap the rewards.

When starting out as a freelancer, there are a few things you need to know to make sure you run smoothly.

Here are the 5 tips we will be looking at today:

  • Be patient
  • Create a portfolio
  • How do you get paid as a freelancer?
  • Promote your work and learn how to sell
  • Create tutorials of the work you do

Be Patient

Like I stated, you need to keep the "get rich quick " mentality at bay. Just like any other business, you need time to build up your portfolio and create awareness to the services you offer.

You have to create content that speaks to your audience and gives them value so that you can establish yourself as a thought leader.

Don't abandon your business just because in the first months you don't see results. It takes time. Keep upskilling and developing skills. You can take courses to help you offer more to your clients.

Create a portfolio

Your portfolio will show the work you can do and give potential clients the courage and trust to hire you.

Sites' like LinkedIn can serve as an online portfolio since it is a professional website. You can alternatively create one for Free. You can check out my post on how to create a website for free.

I have had clients check out my blog and give me work or commend me on a job well done.
You need to have a portfolio as well.

Payments, how do you get paid?

As a freelancer, chances are that you will not only get local clients, but international clients too. So how will you get payments? There are a number of ways and here are the common ways:

Bank transfer
PayPal
Payoneer

PayPal and Payoneer make it possible for you to get paid online. However, PayPal is not available in some countries and if this is the case, you can use Payoneer which allows you to even create a virtual bank account.

Promote your work and learn how to sell.

You will get noticed if you are active in promoting what you do. You will need to keep creating content and sharing out your content via social media and engaging with potential clients. Make sure that you are networking and creating meaningful connections.

Remember the 80/20 rule that states:
80% of your content should be to provide value
20% of your content should be to sell

Make sure that you know your audience well enough to give them content that solves their problems and positions you as a go to person in the field.

Create tutorials

Tutorials are a great way to show your expertise. You can create YouTube videos or write content. This will be promoting your freelancing services.

I create wonderful videos ( without even showing my face ) using software like Doodly which lets me create whiteboard animations like this one👇

If you are thinking of freelancing, go for it! Keep creating content and upskilling. I hope you enjoyed the above tips and before I go, I recently discovered this tool that let's me have all my passwords in one place securely.

If you are an entrepreneur, chances are you have a passwords for a number of accounts ( we have many accounts don't we?😂) and we keep forgetting these passwords. But with this tool, you can relax. 1Password lets you securely store and use strong passwords.

I am still on the road to 3,000 views by end of this month! Help me get there by sharing with your friends! Thank you.
