What are Keywords for SEO?

 Use of keywords for seo

Think about all the times you have gone to google wanting to search for something that you are not sure about.

Maybe you wanted to know which restaurant has outdoor seating in your city. Think about what you typed in. You probably wrote “which restaurant has an outdoor seating” and you probably got an answer to what you were searching for.

The phrase you typed in your browser to search for something is what is called Keywords and every restaurant that used that phrase in their articles/site showed up in your search results. Those that did it right, showed up top of your search result.

For your site to rank high in google searches and other search engines, you need to know which keywords to use. You need to “put yourself in your customer’s shoes” and write down keywords they are likely to use while searching for products/services you offer.

The first step to your SEO journey is coming up with a list of keywords. Your blog and site need to be keyword rich ( not just any keywords, but relevant keywords). Use of tools to help you come up with relevant and high ranking keywords saves you time and gives you an idea of what your customers are searching online.

Please note that not all keywords can help your site. Using an online tool like Mangools, shows you which keywords have a high competition rate. You will want to avoid these especially if you are just starting out. Choose keywords that will make your site rank high.

Keywords can be wide and broad-reaching (commonly referred to as “head keywords”) or a more particular collection of numerous terms ( referred to as “long-tail keywords”). Single keywords can be tough to rank due to their high volume of competition. For example if you sell clothes and decide to use “clothes” as your keyword, it will be difficult to rank above international stores.

Where do you start?

  1. Start by doing Keyword Research using Mangools Keywords Finder. With this tool, you will see all keywords that you can use. You will also see the level of difficulty for each particular keyword and see how many times users have searched for the keyword.
  2. Plan your content around your keywords. You will need to pick a Unique primary keyword that will be used in:

a. Your title

b. Meta Description

c. Alt text on images

d.URL

Make sure to use this keyword generously throughout your content( Do not overdo it) while adding other keywords relating to your primary keyword.
